Kajika
Kajika is a tree frog. When Japanese say Kajika it means to enjoy the beautiful sounds of nature. Our Kajika onsen is an open-air bath inspired by a magnificent river that flows from the top of a mountain. We patiently selected each piece of rock to recreate the dynamic of nature. The view creates perfect impressions of natural landscape as the spring flows. Please also enjoy the surrounding trees that change their expressions throughout the seasons.
Kawasemi
Kawasemi means river cicada in Japanese. “Kawasemi”creates a gentle and elegant space by reproducing a waterfall that glides down the rock surface. We carefully selected round smooth stones to provide a natural solemn atmosphere. Immerse yourself and soak in the warm spring water while feeling a breeze as you look up at the sky. Come treat yourself in our special open-air onsen and forget about daily frustrations.
Hibiki
Hibiki means echo in Japanese. The retro-chic interior of Hibiki bath house is slightly lit by yellow illumination. Its old fashion design brings you a feeling of nostalgia and calm Taisho romance. By installing lumpy rocks, our type of design brings nature inside. Creating these natural spaces that are wrapped into the building, is our delightful desire at Hyotan Onsen. Enjoy the time of healing with luxury to your heart's content while listening to the hot spring water echoing on the high ceiling.
Nagomi
agomi means relaxation in Japanese. Surrounded with warmness of natural wood that is enriched by the steam from the natural springs provides an atmosphere of relaxation like no other, this is Nagomi. This bath style that has been well loved in Japan since ancient times.
In the daytime, the sun shines through the windows and the entire bath house is filled with natural energy. There is a spacious dressing space that you can comfortably use it with small children.
Kizuna
“Kizuna” means bond in Japanese. This onsen room design perfectly recreates an old fashion space that reminds our guests of nostalgic times by combining deep retro-chic colors, materials, and fine lattice windows. Enjoy making sweet memories with your family, friends, or lover while immersing yourself in a 100% natural source hot spring. Relax in this extraordinary space where the clock hands are wound back and deepen your relationship bonds while you spend time with each other.
Ishizue
Ishizue means foundation in Japanese. The origin of “Hyotan Onsen” was, as the name suggests, a gourd-shaped hot spring. To share traditional foundation, Ishizue, with our guests, the gourd-shaped hot spring bath here is a recreation of the original Hyotan Onsen built by our founder, Mr. Junsaku, for his wife, Matsu.
This bath house includes a comfortable dressing room with relaxed textures and a mini garden that make this special onsen a perfect space to treat our guests. Please enjoy a great time with the important people in your life.
Retro
This indoor bath that incorporates the motif of elegant villa culture and architecture that once flourished here in Beppu. The bath house is unified in white with the stylish stained glass windows that capture your attention. The combination of granite throughout the bath house with marble walls, creates a luxurious and unique space that cannot be experienced elsewhere. We named it Retro but designed it with a touch of nostalgia and newness.
Tsukushi
Our “Tsukushi” Onsen is a beautiful contrast between the natural wood of Hinoki cypress and the black ink finish of Gensho slate stone. Although it is an indoor bath, you can still enjoy the feeling of being outside as light passes through the large windows. Relax in this bath while being wrapped in the full of healing power scent of natural Hinoki cypress that has been popular since ancient times. Tsukushi means field horsetail herb in Japanese. It is one of the first flowers of Spring. We hope you will love this bath. As this bath was first opened when the field horsetails were blooming, it was named, Tsukushi, as a reminder of renewed promise of Spring.
Hotaru
Hotaru means firefly in Japanese. This bath house was created by imagining fireflies dancing around your old hometown. The quarried stone bathtub recreates the motif of old style Japanese houses back in the glorious old days and provides a feeling of strength while the warm lights gently illuminate your mind and body.
You simple cannot help wanting to say “I am home” when you visit this nostalgic space. “Hotaru” is another 100% natural hot spring.
Shizuka
Shizuka means a moment of quietness in Japanese. Such as, at the end of the day, when you look back to reflect on the events of the day... In this way, we named this bath Shizuka in order to create a space where you can spend time in peace. Although the granite bathtub and floor are different in color, the overall design is calm and chic. The Shizuka Onsen maintains an orthodox structure without flashiness, with a taste of playfulness from the gourd-shaped hot spring faucet.

Suzume
Suzume means sparrow in Japanese. The pebbles on the smooth floor and the flow of the source spring through the gaps between the rocks recreate the flow of a stream in nature. Suzume is an open-air bath meant to engulf you in sensations of traditional Japanese environment where you can relax and feel as if you are bathing in a bamboo forest and listening to the murmur of a river. We named this hot spring “sparrow”, an animal that is unified in spirit with “bamboo”.
Mutsumi
Mutsumi means friendly or get along well in Japanese. This garden onsen is designed with gentle pebbles and smooth-sloping rocks that pull you into the nostalgia that is familiar in Japanese culture. This onsen is designed to invite conversations with the important people in your life while feeling a natural breeze. We hope you enjoy this dreamlike space, and strengthen the bond between your family, friends, or lover.
Sennin
Sennin means hermit in Japanese. Our “Senjin” recreates the atmosphere of the hidden hot spring deep in the mountains at the artisan source. By creating a deep opening towards the back of the onsen, it creates a more spacious feeling than it actually is. Additionally, you will be amazed as you sink into the bathtub and look up at the rock hill and notice hot steam in mysterious shapes as you watch the spring water flowing down from the top. It’s just the hot spring that a mountain hermit would secretly desired. This bath’s name was given because of such a fantasy.
Hana
Hana means flower in Japanese. Among our great outdoor rock baths, Hana was created by carefully selecting rounded rocks. The smooth pebbles laid down on the floor are somehow cute. This traditional open-air bath is not too gorgeous and is just right for you to enjoy bathing in a calm atmosphere. Come to spend a peaceful time in a bath surrounded by stones that are as lovely as flowers.
